Here is a quick solution that I found while I tried to connect my mac to a network running off a Dlink G604T Router.

I used a WEP password and all worked well with my PCs. BUT… if you put a $ in front of your WEP password it all works on a MAC too.

So password went from being “0123456789″ to “$0123456789″

All good.

Lesson 1
A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp.
They rub it and a Genie comes out.
The Genie says, ‘I’ll give each of you just one wish.’
‘Me first! Me first!’ says the admin clerk. ‘I want to be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without a care in the world.’
Puff! She’s gone.
‘Me next! Me next!’ says the sales rep. ‘I want to be in Hawaii , relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas and the love of my life.’
Puff! He’s gone.
‘OK, you’re up,’ the Genie says to the manager.
The manager says, ‘I want those two back in the office after lunch.’
Moral of the story:
Always let your boss have the first say.

Lesson 2
A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower, when the doorbell rings.
The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs.
When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next-door neighbour.
Before she says a word, Bob says, ‘I’ll give you $800 to drop that towel.’
After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked in front of Bob, after a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 and leaves.
The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs.
When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks, ‘Who was that?’
‘It was Bob the next door neighbour,’ she replies.
‘Great,’ the husband says, ‘did he say anything about the $800 he owes me?’
Moral of the story:
If you share critical information pertaining to credit and risk with your shareholders in time, you may be in a position to prevent avoidable exposure.

Lesson 3
An eagle was sitting on a tree resting, doing nothing.
A small rabbit saw the eagle and asked him, ‘Can I also sit like you and do nothing?’
The eagle answered: ‘Sure, why not.’
So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the eagle and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.
Moral of the story:
To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.

Lesson 4
A turkey was chatting with a bull.
‘I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree’ sighed the turkey, ‘but I haven’t got the energy.’
‘Well, why don’t you nibble on some of my droppings?’ replied the bull. They’re packed with nutrients.’
The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree.
The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch.
Finally after a fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at the top of the tree.
He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot him out of the tree.
Moral of the story:
Bull Shit might get you to the top, but it won’t keep you there..

Lesson 5
A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field.
While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him.
As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was.
The dung was actually thawing him out!
He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy.
A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate.
Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.
Morals of the story:
(1) Not everyone who poos on you is your enemy.
(2) Not everyone who gets you out of poo is your
friend.
(3) And when you’re in deep poo, it’s best to keep
your mouth shut!

This concludes the 5 Minute Management Course. I’d love to take credit for it but the person who sent it to me pinched from somewhere else.

“Despite Apple’s efforts to restrict seeding to select individuals, it appears that the final build of Leopard has made its way outside of Apple. One individual who installed the final version of Leopard as an upgrade to his iMac posted his experience.”

Anyway so says the post at DIGG. Me? I think it’s seeding of a different kind… They reckon that Apple invests bugger all in it’s marketing and that the bulk of their hype is word of mouth. Giving a couple of macophiles a free “unofficial” copy and letting them loose.

Now that’s smart.

Macquarie Radio Network has just launched a new site to take on the big Australian news portals such as Sydney Morning Herald, MSN and The Australian. The site is pretty nifty with quick links to audio and video streams but it’s big differentiators are the strong focus on user comments and links back to sites like Digg and Delicious and the fact that much of the content seems to arrive directly from MRNs radio network so stories should break sooner than on sites using only syndicated content.

It’s good to see someone take an approach that, while not utilising user generated content, does try to invlove it’s readers more and gives their comments front page exposure. There is something pretty cool about seeing your name and opinion on the front page of anything like this.

I do wonder how it will fair against established players but I beleive that if the site manages to focus more on this key difference that it will eek out a solid niche audience that will grow over time.

I don’t really have any issue with porn as long as its consenting adults and no-one is being forced to do what they don’t want to do, but the Simpsons is a family based show with a new movie that will be viewed by adults and children alike. I don’t exactly want to have my kids viewing ads for sites like these.

C’mon Google. How about policing adwords a little better?

UPDATE: 18/6/07 on this post about the Nandos Pole Dancing Stripper.

So in a bit of either moral indignation, or more likely viral marketing, I got an email today about a site that’s been set-up to boycott Nandos. Here it is:

Hi Robert,

I saw the post on your blog about the Nandos Stripper Mum commerical.

I hate that Nandos Ad so much and find it so offensive I’ve created a boycott Nandos Website:
http://www.boycottnandos.com
Thanks.

Whatever you think of the sexualisation of the product it is a great little bit of marketing and is being discussed on TV talk shows like ROVE Live.

I am either being identified as a potential social hub or I am just a victim someone blanketing conversations about the ad… either way I have submitted the site to digg.com to see what happens. The site is pretty funny though. Here are the top 10 reasons not to eat at Nandos… My favourite is point 3.

10 Reasons to Never Eat Nandos Again

They include Underage Children in their Sex Industry Advertisements

Cause Heart Disease and Heart failure with their Cholestorol Soaked Products

Include Smelly Backsides in their Chicken Advertisements

They Promote and Endorse the Sex Industry

Objectify and Degrade Women

Attack Families

Sell Oil-soaked rubbish that gives consumers pimples and acne

Chicken is over-priced and tastes worse than competitors

Nandos had to recall their sauces after being caught selling their sauces containing the illegal cancer-causing Sudan I dye

Nandos have a track-record of disgusting behaviour

I did notice that the email did not use any tracking software such as Traction to see who is actually clicking on the link so if it is viral marketing it really could have been executed better.

The Portugese style chicken food joint, Nandos, has recently released another in it’s series of “fix” ads.

I was shopping with a female co-worker and a friend of hers last week and they both said that they were offended by it? OK, I could understand if they were victims of oppressive inequality and were unable to be considered equals in a workplace dominated by men… but they are both very capable, talented and intelligent women in their mid 20’s doing very well in their chosen profession.

Admittedly I find it offensive too, but only to my intelligence and not my morals.

So this begs the question. Is GenX wedged between 2 much larger generations of morally oppressive conservatives? Former free love hippy now new born moralist Baby Boomers on one side; and former “fuck buddy” it’s all about me now career focused GenY.

I don’t know what the problem is but it sure as hell isn’t we lazy GenX’s.

I love cars and absolutely bloody love Audis! There is a live webcast set-up from the Melbourne International Motor Show with a whole bunch of cars being unveiled to the Australian public:

Audi A6 allroad quattro

Audi S3

Audi TT Roadster

BUT the big news is that at some point over the next few days a MAJOR announcement is being made… a world first. There has been quite a bit of speculation over what it might be and there is rumour of a special invite. Well I HAVE SEEN THE INVITE.

On Tuesday 6 March 2007 at 6.30pm, Audi will host a simultaneous World Premiere event with the Geneva Motor Show. Please join Audi’s managing director, Joerg Hofmann, and Audi Ambassador, Ian Thorpe, for a very special event on the Audi Stand at the Melbourne International Motor Show where we will host an absolute first for the brand in Australia - a simultaneous World Premiere event to celebrate the unveiling of an entirely new model.

Check out the AUDI webstream here

UPDATE: Official Press Release 6-March-2007

World Premiere for Audi in Australia Live streaming & podcast initiative

Audi will unveil a brand new model at Melbourne International Motor Show at 6.30pm on Tuesday 6 March, in conjunction with AUDI AG’s World Premiere in Geneva.

The unveiling in Australia on Tuesday 6 March will also have an additional ‘first’ element as the company undertakes a live webcast and a video podcast, allowing customers all around the world to see the Australian event at the Melbourne show.

The Audi Melbourne International Motor Show microsite (MIMS) will feature a timer counting down to the World Premiere (HOURS and MINUTES) set to 6:30pm.

From 6:30pm onwards, the microsite will feature live streaming of the unveiling, and also gives the opportunity to ‘send link to a friend’.

Edited footage will then be available for viewing on www.audi.com.au. The option will also exist to download this vision as a video podcast and at that time, Audi will become the first automotive manufacturer in Australia to have used this technology for an event.

Australia will also be the first country in Audi’s Asia Pacific region to implement this initiative, demonstrating benchmark online activity and raising awareness for the brand.

Audi also streamed footage of its Official Press Presentation on Friday 2 March 2007, featuring the Australian Premiere of the new S3, A6 allroad quattro and TT Roadster. Over 3,000 people watched the official unveiling live on the web.

The streaming and video podcast are available on www.audi.com.au/mims2007

This is the first in what I plan to be a series of exposes on serial offenders of the most heinous crimes to be found in and around the workplace. Todays post is about The Obvious Stater.

Ahhhh the obvious stater… never too afraid to risk sounding like your drunk uncle at a fat cousins wedding. A close relative of The Repeater, the Obvious Stater is marked by a lesser degree of subtlety and intelligence. They prefer to bludgeon their co-workers with the sorts of things that cross our minds while someone else is talking as we join the dots and pull abstract ideas into plans.

The Obvious Stater does not.

Example 1:
Boss: “There must be a strong perception of quality about our widgets in the market by the consumer”
Mr Obvious: “A strong perception of quality is really important in widgets”
Boss: “Good [you think like me] point OS!!!”

No… Really? Get the fuck outta town.

Example 2:
Person 1: “We really need to make sure that the widget packaging plant packs them in water-tight containers”
Boss: “I thought this was already happening? We need to keep those widgets dry!”
Mr Obvious: “We can’t sell wet widgets”

I vote that anytime an Obvious Stater pipes up in a meeting you reply to them… “nah really? jeez that wasn’t obvious.”

I love flickr. I love the easy access to APIs, I love the range of 3rd party services that support the site, and I love the people that I have met there.

BUT much like going out with a tall, thin blonde that smells like strawberry; then one day seeing her without makeup wearing her “at home” panties… the sheen has worn off somewhat.

Below is a list of services and features that I would love to see on flickr:

The ability to have several user accounts linked to a single flickr account. I HATE that I have to log out and log back in again under a different ID to comment on my photos without sounding like someone who comments on themselves in the 3rd person.

The ability to submit freaks and perverts to a perve directory or shame file. You know the types of users I’m talking about? The ones who leave lewd comments about women and children on your photos and when you go to find out more about them they of course have no details. Submit the bastards to a directory where their IP is banned from the site.

Give access to photos by contact. Sure the current privacy settings on photos are cool. I am guessing though that the photo that you’re happy for your bro to see of you jumping on a trampoline with a burning newspaper rolled up and sticking out of your arse, is probably not cool with your nanna.

Include a ratings engine. Yeah favourites are great… but why not ratings too? Would be a very cool way to while away the hours at work while searching for “stock art”.

Email to a Friend. Hell how cool would it be to be able to send a photo to a friend without going through the whole pasting the url into an email and sending it to a mate thing? Even better, allow you to send the photo to a bunch of friends at once, comments and all.

Comment Notification. I want to be notified when someone comments on my photos. I also want to be notified when someone adds my photo as a fav or adds a note.

Maybe some of these features already exist? If so then let me know, otherwise digg this story and let’s hope someone at flickr notices.
